The Four Parts

Let's go through them together.

Four letters, four jobs. Here's what each part of Medicare actually covers — no jargon, we promise.

A

Hospital Insurance

Covers you when you need to stay somewhere for care — hospitals, skilled nursing, hospice and some home health.

  • Inpatient hospital stays
  • Skilled nursing facility care
  • Hospice care
  • Some home health services
Tip: most people get Part A premium-free.
B

Medical Insurance

Your everyday care — doctor visits, tests, preventive screenings and the equipment you need at home.

  • Doctor & specialist visits
  • Outpatient procedures
  • Preventive screenings
  • Durable medical equipment
Tip: Part B has a monthly premium set each year.
C

Medicare Advantage

An all-in-one alternative from private insurers that bundles A and B — and usually a whole lot more.

  • Everything in Parts A & B
  • Often includes drug coverage
  • Dental, vision & hearing extras
  • Yearly out-of-pocket maximum
Tip: plans and extras vary by ZIP code.
D

Prescription Drugs

Helps pay for the medications you pick up at the pharmacy, with a yearly cap on what you spend.

  • Brand-name & generic drugs
  • Plan-specific formularies
  • Pharmacy network pricing
  • Annual out-of-pocket cap
Tip: enrolling late can mean a lasting penalty.

"What I appreciated most was the honesty — my guide told me one plan wasn't a good fit for me even though it was popular. No pressure at all, just straight answers."

Questions

Ask us anything.

The things people wonder about most, answered simply.

Yes. You never pay us anything. Insurance carriers compensate us when someone enrolls, and that amount is set regardless of which plan you pick — so there's no incentive to steer you anywhere.
Your Initial Enrollment Period spans seven months — three before the month you turn 65, that month, and three after. Annual Open Enrollment runs October 15 to December 7 each year, and certain life events open a Special Enrollment Period.
Medicare Advantage (Part C) replaces how you receive Parts A and B, usually through a network and often with extra benefits. A Medigap Supplement works alongside Original Medicare to help pay your share of costs. You can have one or the other, not both.
Original Medicare works with almost any provider who accepts Medicare. Advantage plans use networks, so your guide will check each of your doctors against a plan's network before you commit to anything.
Late enrollment in Part B or Part D can add a permanent penalty to your premium. There are exceptions — for example, if you have creditable coverage through an employer. A guide can confirm exactly where you stand.
Yes. Most people can switch during Annual Open Enrollment (Oct 15 – Dec 7), and Advantage members have another window from January 1 to March 31. We review your plan with you every year at no charge.
